Reducing costs with self hosting servers

How switching to self-hosted servers cut my startup's hosting costs by 50%

I’m currently building a startup and render costs are extremely expensive. I was paying 8 dollars each time I rebuilt my site. Making changes on the main branch. Which is quite costly for a startup thats constantly making changes. That’s not including the database and other services as well. Then I found out about coolify in an X groupchat. Quite the learning curve but i’ve managed to reduce costs by 50% monthly and I don’t have to pay for each time I rebuild my web app.

What is self hosting?

It’s essentially you buying your own server instead of paying third party provideres like vercel or render. The con of this is that you have to learn how to setup your own server. But it’s not that bad with all the youtube tutorials out there. The great thing is that you have more control over the configuration and software. Plus points for scalability.

Coolify?

It’s an open source self-hosting platform. It’s to reduce the complexity of self-hosting. It’s got a great UI and pretty easy to get going. You can customize a bunch of thing as well.

It has support for a bunch of tecnologies/ tech stacks. The auto-generation of domains is great as well. A bunch of containers

Just something pretty cool that saved me a bunch of money down the line that I’d like to share
